But can they win where it matters?

GT is all that matters.

On what planet?

The manufactures partaking. Including Ford next year.
American manufactures would rather have racecars that the average American public can relate to, helps them advertise the street cars way better. ;)

Eh, corvette is in it’s proper class. The Ford GT however....
seriously how do you send a Ford GT to Le Mans and
not
go for the overall win? there is no point.

While I kind of agree, I doubt they would be able to relate the production model to a Racing prototype as closely as a GTE entry... Back in the 60's the cars winning overall were hardly prototypes in the sense that LMPs are nowadays.

For example, the Z06 itself is based on the C7.R, as they were developed in unison.

Corvettes are gonna buttfuck the GT next year.

Because the sports car endurance world radically transformed in the last decades?

Oh you mean like nascar was supposed to do with real cars. Yes thats true.
![]() 06/14/2015 at 11:47 |

Exactly, better return on their investment for fielding that racecar.
![]() 06/14/2015 at 11:48 |

And a better investment in itself- because of aero lessons learned between the two Vettes, the Z06 is generally fantastic in the corners.

I must have missed the production model MkIV GT’s at the ford dealership....
The GT was glorious becuase it was the best racecar. The GT40 was great because it was a producable streetable homage to a glorious race car (the race versions didn’t exactly set the world ablaze). This GT is appearing to have it’s cake and eat it too. I don’t see that working well.

Bingo, and eventually the tech developed on the race car trickles down through the GM product lines. In this example.

I totally relate to 200k+ cars.

It always has. The lower classes have their place in endurance racing, but only the overall winners become legends.

Got lucky?!?!!?!!

If only it worked that way in all companies...

Relate more to $200k cars than multi-million dollar ones.

LMP doesn’t mean anything at all.

“...Corvette got lucky and won...”. A year from now nobody remembers the trivia preceding a win. They only remember the win. At Le Mans the first goal is to finish and the second is to win.

I love reading all those comments and knowing that if Porsche won GT and some American manufactuer won LMP1 everybody would write the exact same opposite. Because ‘Murica. But carry on Oppo.

I didn't know until recently GT1s raced alongside true prototypes like the Toyota TS020

Why can’t daytona prototypes go to lemans? the Corvette DP looks amazing. What is it about the regulations that rule that out? This looks like a nissan clone.

Same reason Nascars can’t race in DTM.
They’re obsolete.
They use technology, used at Le Mans more than 30 years ago, that’s why. If you want to race in a series, build your car according to its rulebook.
Also, since the Corvette is still front engined, that rendering looks closer to a Corvette, than any DP could ever look.
